Indakan sa Kalye to add glitz and enjoyment in Singkaban Festival 2016

CITY OF MALOLOS – Colorful pageantry of costumes, intricate props and ethnic choreography blended with music will once again astound thousands of tourists and dance enthusiasts along the streets of this city as Bulacan’s best of the best street dancers compete in the “Indakan Sa Kalye” this coming September 14, which is one of the most anticipated events in the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival 2016.

Twelve contingents from different towns and cities in Bulacan are expected to showcase their talent in dancing through a 6-minute presentation that will feature their own local festivities such as Fertility Festival in Obando, Carabao Festival in Pulilan, Halamang Dilaw in Marilao, and Halamanan sa Guiguinto among others to promote the tradition, diverse culture, tourism and products of the province.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the annual street dance competition, which is one of the highlights of Singkaban Festival, will surely attract Filipino and foreign tourists to enjoy and witness the diverse culture and tradition of Bulacan through the art of dancing.

“Sa taun-taon nating pagdiriwang ng Singkaban Festival, ang pagligsahan ng pinakamahuhusay na mananayaw sa ating lalawigan o Indakan sa Kalye ang pinaka-inaabangan ng mga Bulakenyo. Bukod sa pagpapamalas ng kanilang talento sa pagsayaw, naitatampok din sa kumpetisyong ito ang makukulay na selebrasyon sa ating lalawigan,” the governor said.

The said street dance will start at 1:00pm at the Basilica Minore de Immaculada Concepcion and will end in front of the Bulacan Provincial Capitol while the showdown of the groups will take place at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium at 4:00 pm.

Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz said that the grand champion will receive trophy and cash prize amounting P100,000 while the first and second runners up will receive P70,000 and P40,000, respectively.

There are also special awards to be given such as the Best in Street Dancing and Best in Costume wherein aside from trophies, special awardees will also take home P5,000 for each award.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo is expected to grace the event as the guest of honor.
