DepEd Sec Angara to join Bulakenyos in the 126th Anniversary of Malolos Congress

CITY OF MALOLOS – Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara is set to join the Bulakenyos as the prominent guest for the commemoration of the 126th Anniversary of Malolos Congress on September 15, 2024 which will take place at the historic grounds of Barasoain Church in this city.

With the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan”, Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro together with Sec. Angara and National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chair Regalado Trota Jose, Jr. will lead the commemorative program to mark the significant event in the nation’s history, the establishment of the First Philippine Republic and the ratification of the Malolos Constitution.

Fernando hopes that the present generation will continue to uphold the lessons of the Malolos Congress and embrace the spirit of solidarity and patriotism; and they can start by actively participating in commemorative activities.

“Bilang mga Bulakenyo, tayo po ang tagapagmana ng makulay at makabayang kasaysayan ng ating lalawigan. Nawa’y magpatuloy tayong maging huwaran sa pagsulong ng demokrasya, pagkakaisa, at kapayapaan sa buong bansa. Sa bawat hakbang natin patungo sa kinabukasan, dalhin natin ang mga aral ng Malolos Congress at ang diwa ng bayanihan at pagmamahal sa bayan,” the governor said.

On September 15, 1898, the Malolos Congress was formed as the country’s first legislative body, tasked with drafting the nation’s first constitution. The commemoration of its anniversary also serves as the culminating activity of the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival.
