CHR to conduct human rights awareness campaign in Bulacan
CITY OF MALOLOS – The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) will be hosting a human rights awareness drive known as LaKarAn or Lakbay Karapatan Tungo sa Kamalayan that will be hosted by the Provincial Governments of Bulacan and Pampanga in Central Luzon on September 18-19, 2024, under the theme “LAKARAN sa Gitnang Luzon: Sama-samang Paglalakbay Tungo sa Karapatan at Katarungan”.
On September 19, the caravan in Bulacan aims to educate, inspire, and empower communities, civil society, and various sectors in the promotion, protection, and defense of human rights.
In order to enhance the understanding of human rights among Bulakenyos, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and its partner agencies will be organizing a series of activities in the province, including Siyasat. These activities include a Media Forum and Conference aimed at raising awareness about human rights, fostering collaboration between the media and CHR, and introducing the initiatives of CHR Alisto and CHR Mismo. Additionally, a Panday Karapatan: Paralegal Training will be conducted in collaboration with Central Luzon Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to provide participants with paralegal skills, improve legal literacy, encourage accurate documentation of human rights violations, and strengthen the role of CSOs in the referral mechanism.
Other upcoming events that will be held in Bulacan include the Kapwa-Kapwa: Legal Clinic Caravan for Bulakenyos to access legal services, assist with legal documentation, raise legal awareness, and enhance community support networks and Dalaw Lingkod: Courtesy Visit with the City Government of Malolos to introduce the Human Rights Action Center and discuss human rights issues at the city level.
Lastly, the Kakampi Talakayan: CSO Forum and Dialogue, along with the KAKAMPI MEET: Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE) and Human Rights Action Center (HRAC) Summit, will provide a platform for meaningful discussions and collaboration among various stakeholders. These events aim to promote human rights education and advocacy in the community.
Taking part in the program as resource partners and participants are the City Government of Malolos, Regional Office III of the Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, DILG, CHED, and PRO, Local Health Insurance Office- Malolos, Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Bulacan Chapter, Public Attorney’s Office- Malolos District, Kababaihang Manananggol ng Bulacan, Bulacan State University and its students, BSU College of Law, Criminal Justice Education and Legal Management Society, Ty Melo and Associates Law Firm and Magnetic Land Services, CSOs, media representatives, CHRE and HRAC partners and local chief executives of each province in Central Luzon. ###
