Bulakenyo farmers win big in Gawad Saka Awards 2016

CITY OF MALOLOS – Another meaningful harvest time has come for outstanding Bulakenyos in the field of agriculture after being recognized by the Department of Agriculture III in the recently concluded awarding ceremony of Regional Gawad Saka and Organic Agriculture Achievers 2016 held at the Heroes Hall, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Farmers from San Ildefonso bagged the major awards in the individual category including Bienvenido Gumapos as the Outstanding High Value Crops; Nemencio Concepcion as the Outstanding Rice Farmer and Celestino Mananguit as the Outstanding Large Animal Raiser.

Also, Artemio Veneracion from Baliwag were also recognized as the Outstanding Small Animal Raiser for their significant contributions in the area of livestock development.

The commendable provision of affordable and quality food products of Umpucan Palay and Vegetable Farmers MPC, also from San Ildefonso, was recognized as this year’s Gawad Saka Outstanding Barangay Food Terminal Awardee (Non-LGU Managed) in the group category.

All of them received plaque of appreciation and cash incentive worth P30,000 for individual category and P50,000 for group category from the Department of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy- Alvarado congratulated the winners and commended the efforts of their respective municipalities for their continued support to the farmers and efforts for the development of the agriculture sector.

“Muli na namang pinatunayan ng ating mga kababayang Bulakenyo ang kanilang husay sa larangan ng pagsasaka. Out of our farming business, we are now harvesting the fruits of our labor and sacrifices,” Alvarado said.

The Gawad Saka is an annual awarding ceremony that recognizes the significant contributions of the farmers, fisherfolks and rural groups to the development of the agriculture sector, but more so in their continued efforts to provide food for our table.
