Bulacan relives the inauguration of the first Philippine Republic, proclamation of the first constitution

CITY OF MALOLOS – The unpredictable weather did not hinder the Bulakenyos to commemorate the 118th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the First Philippine Republic and the proclamation of the Malolos Constitution, a first in Asia, on the same grounds of the historic Barasoain Church in this city.

Earlier today, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado reiterated the importance of Malolos Republic that was etched deeply in the history of the country.

“Ang kabanatang ito ng ating kasaysayan ang naging matibay na pundasyon ng ating lahi at naging matatag na saligan ng ating karapatan hanggang sa kasalukuyan. Hindi lamang kasarinlan ang bunga nito, bagkus ay maliwanag nitong inilarawan sa sandaigdigan ang kakayanan ng sambayanang Pilipino na yumukod sa pag-iral ng katuwiran ng batas,” Alvarado said.

The governor also said that all the efforts, lives sacrificed and the declaration of democracy during those days will not be a real victory if the Filipinos are still divided.

“Lahat ito ay magmimistulang mga hungkag na karangalan at papuri kung patuloy na mananaig ang pagkakahati-hati ng sambayanan at pagsasawalang bahala sa tunay na diwa ng demokrasya,” Alvarado said before expressing the hope of the province for the Malolos Republic to be commemorated nationwide.

Meanwhile, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael D. Sueno lauded the brave efforts of our forefathers who fought against colonizers to free the nation from colonial rule.

“Dati’y tila imposible ng makamit ang kalayaan ng bansa mula sa kadena ng mga banyagang mananakop na Kastila, Amerikano at Hapon. Dati’y tila panaginip ang kumawala sa pagkakagapos sa diktadurya. Dati’y tila walang pag-asang maabot ang demokrasya. Ngunit narito tayo ngayong tumatamasa ng mga biyaya dahil sa hindi pagsuko ng ating mga naunang lahi sa pinaniniwalaan nilang makakabuti para sa susunod na henerasyon,” Sueno shared.

On behalf of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the secretary also emphasized the idea of federalism.

“Ang pederalismo ang magiging hudyat ng pagbibigay daan sa patas na pagkakataon upang lumago at pagyamanin ang bawat sulok ng bansa. Sa ilalim ng pederalismo, ang mga pederal na estado o rehiyon ng bansa ang mismong mamamahala sa kani-kanilang ekonomiya. Kayo ang magsasabatas ng inyong mga polisiya at magpapasiya kung paano ninyo tatahakin ang daan tungo sa kaunlaran,” Sueno said.

The program started with a flag raising ceremony and a wreath laying activity at the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first Philippine president.

Also present in the commemoration were Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Mayor Christian Natividad, Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, board members, congressmen, National Historical Commission of the Philippines OIC Dr. Rene Escalante, and NHCP Executive Director III Ludovico D. Badoy.
