Balagtasan continues to flourish in Bulacan
CITY OF MALOLOS – As a province known to be the home of poets, the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) will stage a play dubbed as Ang Pagbabalik Tanaw sa Unang Hari ng Balagtasan on September 11, 2019 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo in this city.
The stage play aims to continuously reintroduce balagtasan in Bulacan and to not forget the Bulakenyo poets who nourished the love for this arts and culture.
Different stage play actors from the Cultural Center of the Philippines will star in the play and perform balagtasan mixed with OPM, Kundiman and Rap battle.
There are three showtime schedules wherein the first one will be held at 10 am and will be attended by public school teachers and students as well as the employees of the Department of Education; students from Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School, Special Program for the Arts and Malolos Marine Fishery School and employees from the Provincial Government of Bulacan will have the 2 pm schedule; while heads of PGB offices, tourism officers and other selected guests will watch the show at 6 pm.
Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna is expected to grace the event and will render a special number with regard to traditional arts of Balagtasan as well as Mr. Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso, chairman of the CCP.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando expressed his gratitude to the CCP through PHACTO for its support to continuously enliven the art of Balagtasan in the province and for honoring renowned Bulakenyo poets like Jose Corazon de Jesus also known as ‘Hari ng Balagtasan’.
The said stage play is part of the lined-up activities for the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival 2019 with the theme “Sining at Kalinangang Bulakenyo, Dangal ng Filipino”.
