PGB celebrates Nutrition Month, promotes food gardening

CITY OF MALOLOS – In an aim to promote food gardening, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB), headed by Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) launched the 44th Nutrition Month at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city last Monday.

Anchored on the theme “Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin,” this year’s nutrition month aims to contribute to improve nutrition through food access by increasing the number of households, schools, and communities engaged in food gardens.

In line with this, the governor encouraged the Bulakenyos to support the advocacy of the government to suffice the food supply of the Filipinos.

“Ang pagtatanim sa ating mga sariling bakuran ng mga prutas o gulay na maaari nating makain ay hindi lamang isang paraan upang tayo’y makatipid kundi isa ring daan upang ating masiguro na masustansya ang pagkaing inihahain natin sa ating mga pamilya. Bukod dito, maaari rin itong magbigay sa atin ng karagdagang kita na maaari nating maipambili ng ibang bagay na ating kailangan,” the governor said.

As part of the celebration, the PGB will recognize Outstanding Municipalities, Barangays and Volunteer Worker in Nutrition; long serving volunteers and action officers; winners of the Malunggay Kahit Saan, JR. Master Chef Cooking Contest; and 2018 Mutya ng Buntis Season 2 on August 1, 2018 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

The PGB is also set to celebrate the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week by holding a forum on psoriasis on July 17, 2018 at the Francisco Balagtas Hall, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city; joining the regional NDPR week celebration on July 20, 2018 at Marquee Mall, Angeles City, Pampanga; holding a cultural and variety show entitled “Basta Bulakenyo, Kahit may K, OK” on July 21, 2018 at SM City Baliwag; and having two batches of operation for patients with harelip and cleft palate on July 24 to 25, 2018 at Baliwag District Hospital.

The NDPR Week anchored on the theme “Kakayahan at Kasanayan Para sa Kabuhayan Tungo sa Kaunlaraan” is in accordance with Proclamation No. 1870, s. 1979 declaring the third week of July every year as National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
