873 Senior citizens walk into a healthier future at the Healthy Brain, Healthy Life! Seniors’ Walk 2024

CITY OF MALOLOS – In a remarkable display of vitality and community spirit, 873 senior citizens filled The Pavilion at Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center recently for the Healthy Brain, Healthy Life! Seniors’ Walk 2024 initiative, jointly organized by the Commission on Filipino Overseas and Australian Filipino Community Services (AFCS), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bulacan.

With a captivating theme, “Healthy Brain, Healthy Life!”, the event served as a unique gathering aimed at promoting mental wellness and healthy lifestyles among the elder community. Participants were treated to insightful presentations by esteemed speakers, including Psychometrician Viel Mendoza from the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of the Philippines and Dementia Specialist Nurse Precy Cruz, who shared vital knowledge on navigating the complexities of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

“Today, we walk not just for our bodies, but for our minds. The Provincial Government of Bulacan is committed to nurturing love, compassion, and awareness—essential pillars in supporting our senior citizens and their mental health,” Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando declared.

The event featured interactive activities designed to engage the minds and bodies of the participants, fostering a sense of community while promoting critical information about brain health where attendees left with newfound knowledge and resources, empowering them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro expressed his gratitude to the elderly citizens for their heroism within their families and communities. In return, he promises to create and enhance programs that will provide assistance to the seniors, allowing them to live with dignity and continue contributing to community development.

The event was graced by esteemed guests such as Rev. Franklin Mariano, Rev. Dan Abangco, Chaplain Renato Estaquio, Victonette Apilado, and President Angelito Santiago and Secretary Dante Francis Ang II, represented by Frencel Tingga, who also shared a recorded message on behalf of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. ###
