6.2 Magnitude earthquake leaves no fatality in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS – No fatal casualty has been recorded yet in Bulacan after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has noted a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Eastern Samar at 1:37 p.m. today.

Its epicenter was recorded 19 kilometers northwest of San Julian town, which was tectonic in origin had a depth of 17 kilometers.

Intensity V was felt in Tacloban City and Catbalogan City while Intensity IV was recorded in Masbate City, Legazpi City and Sorsogon City.

This happened after an Intensity V earthquake jolted the province yesterday at 5:11 pm, the same time when the 6.1 magnitude quake hit the Northern part of the Philippines.

Its epicenter was 18km Northeast of Castillejos, Zambales.

According to the report from the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as of 7 am today, there were 406 recorded aftershocks wherein 62 were plotted and eight were felt.

The report also shows that an Intensity V earthquake struck the Cities of Malolos and Meycauayan and the Municipalities of Obando, San Ildefonso, Pulilan, Plaridel, Balagtas, and Paombong.

Intensity IV was experienced in the City of San Jose del Monte while Intensity III was felt in Marilao town.

PDRRMC Chairman Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that Bulacan is generally safe after the earthquake.

“Meron lang tayong partial damage sa kusina ng Paombong Police Station at comfort room ng Balagtas Police Station pero sa ngayon base sa mga report ng assessment, nagpapasalamat tayo at hindi tayo tinamaan ng malakas na lindol, ngunit kasama tayong nananalangin ng buong bansa para sa mga tinamaan and we’ll see what we can do to help,” Alvarado said.

Based on the assessment of the DPWH-DEO I, DPWH-DEO II and Provincial Engineers Office, there were no reported damages on national roads and bridges as of this time and rapid assessment on school buildings and public buildings are ongoing.

The PEO with five engineers from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) are still conducting an infrastructure audit and damage assessment at the Provincial Government of Bulacan’s facilities including the Provincial Capitol Building.

Moreover, there were no reported damages in Angat, Ipo, and Bustos Dams according to the initial assessment by inspection engineers.

There were also no reported power and water supply and telecommunications interruption.
Meanwhile, Bulacan Rescue Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) Team 1, in coordination with other rescue teams, successfully rescued two victims at the collapsed Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga today at 4 am and 9:30 am respectively.

PDRRMO Operation Center is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Cities/Municipalities DRRMO, PHIVOLCS-DOST, OCD3, DILG, MGB, Philippine Army, BFP, PNP and other partners to ensure the safety of Bulakenyos.
