St. Joseph College of Bulacan cooks the best sinigang in Flavors of Bulacan
CITY OF MALOLOS – Out of nine contenders from different colleges and universities in Bulacan, St. Joseph College of Bulacan won the title of having the “Best Sinigang” with their ‘Spicy Seafood Sinigang’ during the cooking competition part of the “Flavors of Bulacan: The Bulacan Food Festival” held at the Eco-Commercial Complex today in this city.
STI Balagtas won the second place for their ‘3-in-1 Sinigang Sa Balimbing, Sampalok at Tanglad na may Laman ng Buko at Katas Mula sa Pinausukang Sapal ng Niyog’ and Bulacan State University placed third for their ‘Macagon’ or ‘Mango, Calamansi, and Dragon Fruit Sinigang’.
The winners took home P20,000, P15,000 and P10,000 cash prizes respectively.
“This is the best experience ever. Masaya po at marami kaming natutunan. Pagbubutihin pa po namin at hindi po namin hahayaang maputol ang pagluluto ng mga ipinagmamalaking recipe ng Bulacan,” David Christian Reyes from St. Joseph College of Bulacan said.
Other participants who received Mama Sita’s gift packs and products from Eurobake were students from STI College Meycauayan, Pambayang Dalubhasaan ng Marilao, Baliwag University, Dr. Yanga’s College, Baliwag Polytechnic College, and ABE International Business College Malolos.
Lorelie Torres, Tourism Division Head from the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office, said that all the participants will have the chance to join the national cooking competition dubbed as “Mga Kwentong Pagkain ni Mama Sita’s”.
Prior to this, there were cooking demonstrations that the students enjoyed and learned from. Teresa Hernandez, granddaughter of Mila Enriquez, demonstrated how to make gurgurya and pinaso; Ferdinand Talbenito of Bistro Maloleño showed how to cook potchero, the favorite Sunday food of Marcelo H. Del Pilar; and Richard Ramos of Eurobake demonstrated how to make inipit and ensaymada.
“Magpatuloy sana sa inyong henerasyon ang pagluluto ng mga kalutong sariling atin. Sana kayo din, sa mga susunod na panahon ay mapanood naming nagluluto ng mga ganito,” Talbenito said.
Clara Lapus, president of Mama Sita’s Foundation, thanked Bulacan for their continuous effort in promoting the food industry.
