Marian College of Baliuag dominates 1st BUCAA Basketball tournament

CITY OF MALOLOS – Marian College of Baliuag, Inc. dominated the 1st Bulacan University and Collegiate Athletic Association (BUCAA) Men’s Basketball tournament, clinching the championship title in a thrilling showdown against Jesus Is Lord Colleges Foundation, Inc. (JILCF) recently.

The Best of Three Series kept fans on the edge of their seats, with Game One taking place on May 29, 2024 at the picturesque Prayer Garden of JILCF; Game Two brought the action to the Baliwag Star Arena on May 31, 2024, and the series concluded with Game Three on June 4, 2024 at the Bustos Gymnasium.

In their Facebook page, Marian College of Baliuag shared a post regarding their previous encounter with JILCF saying, “For the information of all Marian students and athletes, we would like to let you know that the Marian basketball team competed in the 2009 Basketball BULPRISA tournament and lost to JILCF. That was 15 years ago. Fifteen years later, we meet again! The championship face-off was a head-to-head battle, this time MCB basketball team won’t let Marian College and its audience/supporters down. Due to the hard work of the team, we emerged victorious in the 1st BUCAA tournament! Moreover, we are the 1st highest pointing team and 1st championship title holder of the BUCAA tournament.”

Marian College of Baliuag will receive the grand prize of P400,000, while JILCF, the 1st runner up, will take home P200,000; Bulacan State University (BulSU) Main Campus, 2nd runner up, will receive P150,000, and SJDM Cornerstone College, the 3rd runner up, will get P60,000.

The recipients of Individual Awards for the Mythical 5 are Aaron John E. Wico, Josh Eduard Ortiz, Ernel Jhon B. Caguntas, Alexis Gemile L. Borga, and Juan Miguel D. Ingco and among them, Wico stood out as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Bulacan Gov. Daniel R. Fernando congratulated the first ever champion and awardees of BUCAA. “Congratulations to Marian College of Baliuag, our first BUCAA champion, to all the individual awardees and to all the universities and colleges who participated in the tournament. Talented young athletes like you have truly proven yourselves on the court and deserve to be recognized for your exceptional skills,” Fernando said.
