Fernando places Bulacan under State of Calamity after Typhoon Ulysses
CITY OF MALOLOS – Due to the damages caused by Typhoon Ulysses in Bulacan recently, Governor Daniel R. Fernando, chairman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), has ordered to place the province under State of Calamity last Tuesday, November 17, 2020, for the welfare of Bulakenyos.
Through the recommendation of PDRRMC, an online session was conducted by the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado declaring a State of Calamity in the province through Resolution No. 488-2020 due to damages in properties, livelihoods, roads and interruption in power supply to affected areas.
According to the latest situational report of PDRRMO, the recent calamity affected more than 800,000 Bulakenyo individuals wherein 18,671 of them or 5,814 families were forced to evacuate for their safety while according to a partial/unofficial damage report, damage to infrastructure costs a total of P198,938,000 and P659,337,057.10 for the damages on agriculture and fisheries.
Fernando said that declaring a State of Calamity in the province will expedite the implementation of projects and programs to further address the needs of the affected Bulakenyos.
“Marami po ang kababayan nating naapektuhan sa nagdaang Bagyong Ulysses. May mga pangkabuhayan ang nasira at may mga pamilyang kinailangang lumikas mula sa kanilang tahanan. Sa pagdedeklara ng state of calamity, layon natin na ihatid nang mabilisan ang mga tulong na kinakailangan ng ating kapwa Bulakenyo. Tutulong tayo sa kanilang pagbangon muli upang makapagpatuloy sa kanilang pangkabuhayan,” the governor said.
As of yesterday, the Provincial Government of Bulacan has distributed a total of 39,313 family food packs to 28 barangays in the towns of Balagtas and Bocaue and will continue to other affected towns in the province. ###
