CITY OF MALOLOS- The efforts, support and contribution of the Provincial Government of Bulacan to Central Luzon’s Polio Outbreak Response paid off as the Department of Health recognized the high coverage of the province’s Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio Campaign despite having high number of COVID-19 cases.

Based on the record of the Provincial Health Office-Public Health, a total of 316,566 Bulakenyo children were given polio vaccine for the Round 1 of immunization from July 20 to August 16, 2020; while 330,706 were vaccinated during the Round 2 that was scheduled from September 14 to 27, 2020.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando credited the success of the campaign to the proactive efforts of the PGB including health education and promotion, partnership with private pedia organizations, and the service of the untiring health workers.

“Sa gitna ng pandemya, nakikita natin ang kahalagahan ng bakuna. Wala pa po tayong kaso ng polio dito sa ating lalawigan kaya naman po nararapat na paghandaan natin ito. Gumawa na po tayo ng hakbang upang makaiwas at proteksyunan ang buong lalawigan laban sa sakit na ito” the governor said.

He also said that the oral vaccine is free, safe, and proven effective against polio.

Polio is a contagious disease that can cause paralysis and can eventually result to death. It usually targets children under five years old. ###
