Bulakenyo centenarians receive P100K cash incentive

CITY OF MALOLOS – Bulakenyo centenarians are now P100, 000 richer after receiving the additional benefits under the Republic Act No. 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016”.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando and Regional Director Gemma Gabuya of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region III led the distribution of the cash incentive to Bulakenyo centenarians, Thursday morning at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here.

According to Alvarado, 45 Bulakenyos received their cash gifts today and the second batch will have their turn on a date which will be announced soon.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa hindi matatawarang kontribusyon ninyo sa lalawigan. Ang pagrupok ng mga buto, pagkulubot ng balat ay indikasyon lamang ng ating pisikal na limitasyon bilang tao, subalit hindi balakid upang mamuhay ng masigla, may pag-asa at makabuluhan,” the governor said.

Under the law, all Filipinos who reached the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the country or abroad, shall be honoured with a letter of Felicitation from the President congratulating the celebrant for his longevity and a centenarian gift in the amount of P100,000 from the national government.

The governor also said that aside from this, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) will continue to honor the centenarians by giving them additional P10,000 as the province have been doing for four years already as part of the celebration of the annual Elderly Filipino Week every October.

Maria Ibañez, 102 years old from Tikay, Malolos said that she is thankful for the cash gift for it will help them manage their expenses especially in health related expenditures.

Moreover, the DSWD turned over checks for the Bottom-Up Budgeting Projects of the Municipalities of Marilao for Protective Services/People Empowerment through Social Welfare and Development amounting to P1.8 million and DREAM U: Cash for Work Climate Change with P1,482,000; Plaridel for Assistance in Crisis Situation amounting to P999,000 and Pandi for Capacity Building/Auxiliary Devices with P850,000.

Also, a memorandum of agreement between the PGB represented by Alvarado and the DSWD represented by RD Gabuya has been signed with regard to Expanded Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation wherein the DSWD conferred P20 million to the PGB in support to the said program.
