Bulacan-based media unleashed friendly competitiveness on a Pickleball Tournament

MEDIA SPORTSFEST 2023 WINNERS. CITY OF MALOLOS – The anticipation reached its peak as 44 Bulacan-based media gathered for a fun-filled activity during the Media Sportsfest 2023 – Pickleball Tournament spearheaded by the Provincial Public Affairs Office in partnership with City of Malolos Pickleball Club held at the Bulacan Sports Complex in this city last Friday, November 17, 2023.

Being all new to the Pickleball sport, members of the City of Malolos Pickleball Club headed by their Club President Cecilio Castro and Club Officer Cherry Arcega conducted an orientation and pre-game briefing for the participating players prior the tournament showcasing the growing popularity of Pickleball as a sport for all ages and skill levels.

The first-time players competed in various categories including Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles where winners took home cash prizes worth P5,000 for the champion; P3,000 for 2nd place and P2,000 for 3rd place along with trophies for each player and certificates for all the participants.

Special awards were also given wherein the winner took home special prizes.

The victors Ricardo Mirasol and Omar Padilla showed teamwork and was hailed the champion for Men’s Doubles while Louie Angeles and Thony Arcenal landed on 2nd place and Jason Estrada and Joey Uy on 3rd place; while Mary Ann Naduma and Lilibeth Tan bagged the championship for Women’s Doubles, Mila Tan and Claire Ponce on 2nd place and Evita Estrada and Mailaflor Cruz on 3rd place; spouses Theofel Santos and Lalaine Santos also worked their way to the championship for Mixed Doubles while mother and son tandem Verna Santos and Allan Roi Casipit landed on 2nd place and Rene Clemente and Maricris Mapalad on 3rd place.

Provincial Information Officer Katrina Anne Bernardo-Balingit also expressed her gratitude for the Bulacan-based media for taking a day off to participate and acknowledged the significant support that the City of Malolos Pickleball Club has provided for the Media Sportsfest 2023.

Meanwhile, Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro extended their support in the conduct of Media Sportsfest 2023, especially with its objective to promote a healthy lifestyle and build camaraderie among media people.

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis which has gained popularity rapidly, especially among older adults, due to its relatively easy-to-learn rules and the reduced physical impact compared to some other racquet sports.
