CITY OF MALOLOS – “This is our contribution to the appeal of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his bid to achieve a drug-free Philippines and we will start this by pushing for a drug-free Bulacan. Bola Kontra Droga for a drug-free Bulacan, drug-free showbiz”.

This was the statement of Vice Governor Daniel R. Fernando during the press conference in line with the “Bola Kontra Droga” Campus Tour/Bulacan Tour (Basketball Shoot-out with Celebrities) held at the Audio-Visual Room of the College of Information and Communication Technology Building, Bulacan State University (BulSU) in this city yesterday.

Fernando explained that he sought the help of the celebrities for his campaign against illegal drugs because they are role models and great influencers to the youth and they can also help him campaign for a drug-free showbiz industry.

“Dahil sa sunud-sunod na pagkakasangkot ng ating mga kasamahan sa industriya sa iligal na droga, kabilang na sa ating pangarap na magkaroon din tayo ng drug-free showbiz upang maging mabuting huwaran ang ating mga artista sa ating mga mamamayan lalo na po sa ating mga kabataan,” Fernando added.

Meanwhile, Joross Gamboa, one of the celebrity players, said that Fernando gave their basketball group a purpose, which is to inspire and educate the youth on the harmful effects of illegal drugs.

“Ten years na yata kaming magkakasama na nagba-basketball. Matagal na kaming magkakasama na naglalaro kung saan-saan sa Pilipinas pero ngayon lang kami naka-encounter ng ganito. Nung nakasama namin si Vice nagkaroon ng purpose ‘yung tour namin. Mas may purpose na ngayon not just to entertain,” Gamboa said.
Aside from Gamboa, the other players of the Celebrity All-Star Team including Derick Hubalde, Mark Herras, Jordan Herrera, Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco, Matt Evans, Marco Alcaraz, Joseph Bitangcol and JC Tiuseco stated their willingness to do an on-the-spot drug testing to prove that they are not taking any illegal substance.

After the press conference, the Celebrity All-Star Team competed against the BulSU Faculty Players in the Activity Center of the said university.

The “Bola Kontra Droga” Campus Tour/Bulacan Tour (Basketball Shoot-out with Celebrities) initiated by Fernando and Damayang Filipino was made possible with the support and cooperation of the Provincial Government of Bulacan and BulSU.
