Bulacan celebrates Fire Prevention Month

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) lined up month long activities this March as the celebration of Fire Prevention Month kicked off in the province with a motorcade yesterday and a short program this morning at the Capitol Gymnasium in this city.

With the theme “Kaligtasan sa Sunog: Alamin, Gawin, at Isabuhay Natin!, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said this year’s celebration aims to increase the awareness and preparedness of Bulakenyos with regard to fire prevention.

The PDRRMO distributed Disaster Preparedness Flyer entitled “Mga Payo ng Pangkaligtasan — Pag-iingat sa Sunog” this morning during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony.

“Follow those simple tips and pass it on to your friends and family that would potentially saved everyone’s life, make this fire prevention month count”, Alvarado said.

Meanwhile, six municipalities that include Bocaue, Pandi, Paombong, Obando, San Ildefonso and San Rafael received rescue tools and equipment from the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the proceeds of the “Ang Bote Mo, Kaligtasan Ko!” Project.

Each MDRRMC receives one throw can, six life vests, one throw bag, one padded splint, one trauma kit and one spine board.

Alvarado also distributed emergency kits to 100 capitol employees while 40 employees won life vests; 14 throw bags and 14 rescue or throw cans.

According to Felicisima Mungcal, PDRRMO head, the activities for this month includes Fire Safety Inspection on March 4 at the Capitol Building and in government offices and private establishments; coordination and ocular inspection on March 5; a Fire Talk and Fire Drill Orientation on March 6; and Planning on Fire Drill on March 9 at the Bulacan Polytechnic College while the fire drill at BPC will take place on March 11; and a bloodletting drive in Guiguinto, Bulacan on March 18.

Other activities include meetings of the PDRRMC and Capitol Fire Marshalls, Provincial Convergence on LISTO, Fire Suppression and First Aid and BLS-CPR Training in Pandi, Bulacan.
