Bulacan champs anew in CLRAA 2016

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Bulacan delegation reigned supreme in the Central Luzon Regional Athletics Association (CLRAA) Meet 2016 as they bagged 268 medals in different sports events held at several venues in the province placing them as the overall champion that will represent the region in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2016.

Topping both the elementary and secondary divisions, the Bulacan delegation, which has produced great athletes like Asia’s sprint queen Lydia de Vega and Bulacan Little League Softball Team, swept away 130 gold medals (66 in elementary and 64 in secondary level); 88 silver medals (47 elementary, 41 secondary) and 56 bronze medals (24 elementary, 26 secondary) and took home trophies and certificate of recognitions.

The province of Bataan placed as 1st runner up with a total medal haul of 32 gold, 33 silver and 42 bronze medals while Olongapo City finished as 2nd runner up after bagging 25 gold, 37 silver and 37 bronze medals.

As the hosting province of the said sports event, Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulated the winners and delegates from different participating school divisions and said that humility, camaraderie and sportsmanship are always the key to achieve success, especially in the field of sports.

“The annual regional sports meet is a good venue not only for instilling discipline, honing skills and talents but also the best time for fostering camaraderie to our athletes, coaches and staff of the event,” Alvarado said.
The governor also lauded the efforts of the Bulacan delegation in giving their best in the competition and congratulated the student-athletes, their coaches and staff for doing a good job in their respective sports event.

Alvarado, who is also the Chairman of Regional Development Council in Central Luzon, stated that the annual sports event was a prelude for the province for the possible hosting of the national games or Palarong Pambansa with venues and facilities like the biggest open stadium at Ciudad de Victoria, located side-by-side with the Philippine Arena in Bocaue town, where the softball and football games were held.

Moreover, Department of Education OIC-Regional Director Malcolm Garma expressed his gratitude to DepEd Bulacan and the Provincial Government for the safe and successful hosting of CLRAA 2016.

“We are thankful for the safe and healthy competition among the participants and this time, we are aiming for bagging gold medals at the upcoming Palarong Bansa with the united cooperation of the provinces in Central Luzon,” the OIC Regional Director said.

All of the outstanding athletes who won first place in their respective sports events in CLRAA will represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa 2016.
