Gawad Dangal ng Lipi to recognize 12 notable Bulakenyos

CITY OF MALOLOS – Twelve distinguished Bulakenyo modern-day heroes who have excelled in different fields will be recognized by the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Gawad Dangal ng Lipi 2017 on September 15, 2017, 6:00 in the evening at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center here.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said this annual search is considered as one of the highlights of the Singkaban Festival celebration, which awards the highest distinction to outstanding sons and daughters of the province.

“Every year, we are looking forward to this occasion knowing that a new batch of outstanding Bulakenyos will be honored because of their invaluable contribution not only to our province but even to our country. These people are treasures worth the praises and emulation,” the governor said.

According to the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), DNL secretariat, the nominees underwent a thorough screening process for the following categories: public service, professional, community service, entrepreneur, education, Science and technology, arts and culture, trade and industry, health, agriculture, sports, Bulakenyo Expatriate and Tanging Bulakenyo.

Tanging Bulakenyo, the highest award to be given to a Bulakenyo by the PGB, will be awarded to a nominee who excels in any of the awards categories stated above and with an outstanding contribution to the society.

DNL awardees will receive medals and trophy of recognition.

Among the celebrated DNL awardees were the late former President Corazon Aquino, the late Secretary Blas Ople, Executive Secretaries Alberto Romulo and Paquito Ochoa, Jr; journalists Arnold Clavio and Cheche Lazaro; and entertainers like Joey de Leon, Richard Gomez, Dolphy, and Regine Velasquez.

Formerly called Dangal ng Bulacan, the PGB started to give this prestigious distinction in 1974 known as the Natatanging Bulakenyo Award.
