DILG, Inter-Agency Task Force on Federalism endorse constitutional amendment

CITY OF MALOLOS – The call for a constitutional reform is not yet put to rest as the Department of the Interior and Local Government through the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Inter-Agency Task Force on Federalism (IATF) and Constitutional Reform Program promoted constitutional amendment before the Bulakenyos.

On the two-day (CoRe) Constitutional Reform Provincial Roadshow from November 18-19, 2019 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city, DILG-Bulacan Provincial Director Darwin David said that the campaign needs all the support it can get for it to succeed.

He added that highlights of the activity include information and advocacy campaigns for the 1987 Constitutions to be amended to be able to address the major problems of the country like endemic corruption, political dynasty, ‘trapo’, unemployment, income inequality in the regions, among others.

Further, Dir. David and City of Malolos Councilor Atty. Carlo Niño Bautista presented the Four CoRe Pillars namely ‘Pagyamanin ang Probinsiya, Paluwagin ang Metro Manila’ wherein the changes will include constitutionalizing the Mandanas Ruling, revision of IRA-sharing criteria and establishing the Regional Development Authority; ‘Gobyerno Para sa Tao, Hindi Para sa Trapo’ wherein political parties will become democratic institutions, campaign finance transparency, anti-turncoatism and anti-political dynasty; ‘Bukas na Ekonomiya nang Lahat ay May Pag-asa’, which includes the removal of the explicit foreign equity limitations, and ‘Bagong Konstitusyon para sa Bagong Henerasyon’ that emphasizes the need for constitutional revisions.

Some of the attendees signed the pledge of commitment to show their support to the initiative of the Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform.

Meanwhile, the output of the IATF is still being discussed and is expected to be released in 2020.
