89 Bulakenyo centenarians receive incentives, celebrate elderly Filipino week

THANKFUL. A 101 years old centenarian namely Corazon Tañalas from Meysulao, Calumpit, Bulacan expresses her appreciation to Gov. Daniel R. Fernando after receiving P10,000 financial incentive during the Pagkilala at Pagpapahalaga sa mga Sentenaryong Bulakenyo and Elderly Filipino Week Celebration held at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center, City of Malolos, Bulacan yesterday. CITY OF MALOLOS- Eighty-nine Bulakenyo centenarians received cash incentives and gifts during the Pagkilala at Pagpapahalaga sa mga Sentenaryong Bulakenyo and Elderly Filipino Week Celebration held at The Pavilion in Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city, yesterday.

With the theme “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts with Me”, Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said that this activity is not being conducted out of obligation but because the province appreciates the sacrifices of centenarians.

The centenarians were given P10,000 cash each, certificate of appreciation and gift packs.

“Kayo po ang aming inspirasyon, ang inyo pong buhay, mga aral ang nagsisilbing gabay namin upang mamuhay ng matiwasay. Kayo po ang nagpapaalala sa amin ng tunay na kahulugan ng buhay,” Fernando said.

He also thanked the relatives of the centenarians for untiringly taking care of their kin.

“Salamat po sa pag-aalagang ibinibigay ninyo sa kanila. Marami sa atin ay magiging magulang din at alam natin ang halaga ng ating mga magulang at ng may kasamang magulang,” he added.

Corazon Tañalas, 101 years old from Calumpit, said that she is very happy to be a part of the event.

“Nasasayahan ako, marami akong nakakasama, marami akong nakikita, may mga regalo,” Tañalas said.

Also, Danilo Polga, son of Juana Polga, 109 years old from the City of San Jose del Monte, expressed his gratitude for acknowledging the elderlies.

“Ako na lang ang buhay sa mga anak niya kaya nakakatuwa para sa amin na nabibigyan ng kasiyahan ‘yung mga matatanda at kinikilala pati kaming mga nag-aalaga sa magulang,” Polga said.

Meanwhile, Susan Hernandez, Social Pension head, DSWD RO3 who represented DSWD Regional Director Marites Maristela, presented the RA 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016 that gives centenarians a letter of felicitation, P100,000 cash incentive and Posthumous plaque of recognition for the deceased centenarians, which took effect in July 15, 2016.

Moreover, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Head Rowena Joson-Tiongson said that the Provincial Government of Bulacan has been giving cash gifts to Bulakenyo Centenarians since 2014.
