“Vaccine is the most effective protection against measles, rubella” – Bulacan PHO
CITY OF MALOLOS– The Provincial Health Office-Public Health of the Province of Bulacan reminded the Bulakenyos that the vaccine is the most effective protection against measles and rubella as the number of cases among children rose in the province.
According to the Measles Advisory of the PHO-PH last March 28, most of the children stricken by the disease were not vaccinated.
“Ang pinakamahusay na proteksyon laban sa tigdas ay ang bakuna laban sa Measles Rubella (MR) vaccines. Ito ay ibinibigay tuwing 9 na buwang gulang at bago mag-isang taong gulang ang bata. Libre, ligtas, at epektibo ito sa ating mga health center,” the advisory stated.
From January 1 to March 22, there were 17 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles, and six laboratory-confirmed rubella cases in the province, which is higher compared to the five measles and one rubella cases at the same time last year.
Meanwhile, no clustering of cases and deaths was logged in the province.
To halt the further spread of the viral diseases among children, the PHO-PH continuously conducts 24/7 surveillance in 24 towns and cities for rapid case detection; conducting the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunization – Ligtas Tigdas campaign to boost vaccination against measles; deploying the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit and Health Promotion Unit to conduct case investigation, community assessment, and health education in areas with measles cases; continuous case monitoring and specimen transport for immediate confirmation of measles-rubella cases; involving local leaders and health workers in community engagement and dissemination of information in affected areas; conducting face-to-face orientation and microplanning workshops for LGUs; providing technical assistance and monitoring support from PHO staff in RCM activities; disseminating correct information through community lectures, social media, and IEC materials to prevent the spread of the disease; and monitoring measles patients for isolation and treatment. ###
