CITY OF MALOLOS- As part of this year’s Singkaban Festival celebration, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) partnered with the Bulacan Tourism Convention and Visitors Board (BTCVB) and talked about anxiety and depression in the tourism industry in an online learning webinar via Zoom application last September 11, 2020.

Over a hundred tourism and hospitality practitioners and students joined the webinar entitled “Conquering Anxiety and Depression during the Community Quarantine Among Tourism Students and Practitioners”.

Dr. Joseph Mauro Sayo lectured about mental health in the era of COVID-19 and pointed out that caring for the mind is as important and as crucial as caring for the body. In fact, one cannot be healthy without the other.

He advised the attendees to get adequate, sleep, eat regular meals, exercise, stay connected to friends and family, practice relaxation techniques, and get help when needed.

For the second segment of the program, Vergel Santos, Karl Pascual Del Rosario, Pamela Cindy Nuguid, and Ma. Vanessa Dela Cruz shared how they transformed adversity into opportunities.

Santos, a head waiter on a cruising line and was repatriated due to the pandemic, came up with a chili garlic oil business idea with the help of his family; Del Rosario, an affected hotel bartender enters a pizza with a dip business; Nuguid, a cabin crew discovered her passion for nutrition; and Dela Cruz, an accredited tour guide turned to vlogging and to her milk tea business.

In his pre-recorded video message, Governor Daniel R. Fernando thanked everyone who participated on the events of the Singkaban Festival although the activities are all done online.

“Sa ngayon, ipapakita natin na di kaya talunin ng pandemya ang pagmamahal sa kultura at talent ng liping Bulakenyo. Umasa po kayo na kahit nagbago na ang anyo n gating pagdiriwang dahil online tayo at hiondi face to face, mananatiling iisa ang kagalakan at pasasalamat para sa panibagong taon n gating kasaysayan,” the governor said.###
