CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado urges the local government units to cooperate and support the programs that will address the problem on waste management.
Coinciding the celebration of the Environment Month this June, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) will convene the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board on June 9 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city to draft a 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan to address garbage problem in the province, which is in line with the provisions of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 or Republic Act 9003.
“Hinihikayat ko ang pakikiisa ng bawat lokal na pamahalaan na magbalangkas ng mga epektibong hakbang upang maayos na maipatupad ang RA 9003 gayundin ay magsagawa ng iba pang mga programang mangangalaga sa ating kapaligiran,” Alvarado said.
Also in line with the observance of Environment Month, the Sagip Kalikasan Dulot ay Pangkabuhayan (SKDP) Inc., which is the PGB’s partner in implementing programs that help reduce waste generation as well as creating livelihood products from garbage, will take their oath of office.
“Pinasasalamatan ko ang kanilang pagsisikap sa patuloy na pangunguna sa paglikha ng mga produktong mula sa basura na nakapagbibigay hanapbuhay sa maraming pamilyang Bulakenyo sa ating mga komunidad,” the governor said.
In addition, Alvarado reminds Bulakenyos to observe the proper way of disposing their garbage according to biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable and to avoid disposing their garbage on places like roads, creeks and rivers.
Expected to grace the launching of the Environment Month on June 5 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium are the local chief executives of the 24 municipalities in the province; officials, heads and employees of the PGB, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Environmental Management Bureau ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and non-government organization.
Other lined-up activities for the said Environment Month are Arbor Day on June 25 at Sitio Duplas, Brgy. Camachin, DRT between the PGB and Municipal Government of DRT; BENRO’s distribution of informative materials on June 26-30; and orientation for the designated Ecology Officers of each department and hospitals of the PGB, various national agencies and establishments to create more awareness about proper waste segregation and collection in their respective areas.
As per Proclamation No. 237, s. 1988, the Philippines celebrates the whole month of June as Environment Month to focus the public’s attention to the protection and conservation of the country’s natural resources.
