CITY OF MALOLOS — The ‘Team Palaban’ composed of media practitioners from Bulacan Press Club was hailed champion during the recently concluded Media Sportsfest 2017 Minute-to-Win-it Edition held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city recently.
Headed by its Team Captain Frederick Silverio, writer in Manila Times and publisher of Centro News, the group took home P12,000 cash prize, trophy and medals.
“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Gob. Alvarado at sa PPAO dahil pinagkalooban kami ng isang araw ng kasiyahan at sa kanilang pagsisikap na pag-isahin ang mga mamamahayag sa Bulacan,” Silverio of Team Palaban said.
Meanwhile, ‘Team Bikining Itim’ headed by its Team Captain Carmela Reyes-Estrope, writer in Philippine Daily Inquirer and editor-in-chief of Newscore, won second place and received P10,000 cash prize, trophy and medals while the ‘Team CMT’ headed by its Team Captain Jason Estrada, CMT Update columnist, landed on the third spot wherein they brought home P8,000 cash prize, trophy and medals.
Other participants who received special awards and gift packs were Abe Limpin (Best in Sportswear- Male), Eloisa Samonte (Best in Sportswear-Female), Rene Bandorin and Corsini Reyes (Most Energetic Award), Jason Estrada (Sportsmanship Award), Joe Pineda and Ram Barcelona (Early Bird Award), Joey Uy (Most Disciplined Award) and Roseth Reyes (Most Valuable Player).
The sports event was facilitated by the game masters Niña Buenaventura from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, John Michael Alfonso, instructor from Bulacan State University and Jeffrey Santos, instructor from Bulacan Polytechnic College and member of national team for men’s volleyball who plays at the Palarong Pambansa.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulated all who participated in the sportsfest. He said allotting a day filled with fun and friendly competition among the media practitioners in Bulacan is the government’s way of showing its appreciation to the important role of press in disseminating valuable and relevant information.
“Batid ng inyong lingkod ang mahalagang papel ng mga mamamahayag sa pagbababa ng mga impormasyong nakapag-aangat sa kamalayan ng mga Bulakenyo hinggil sa makabuluhang proyekto at programa ng pamahalaan. Nawa’y sa pamamagitan ng sportsfest na ito, mas lalong tumibay ang inyong samahan at mas higit na maging pursigidong katuwang ng pamahalaan sa pagbabahagi ng makabuluhang balita,” Alvarado said.
The said sportfest was made possible through the efforts of the Provincial Public Affairs Office and support from Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, board members, Provincial General Services Office, Bulacan Rescue and other sponsors like San Miguel Purefoods, SM City Baliwag and Marilao.
