CITY OF MALOLOS – Senator Vicente Sotto III will join thousands of Bulakenyos in commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Malolos Congress come September 20, 2018 to be held at the historic Barasoain Church here.
The program will kick off at 8:00 in the morning with a flag raising ceremony followed by the oath to the national flag and wreath laying ceremony at the statue of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines.
It will be led by Senator Sotto, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, district representatives of Bulacan, City of Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad and National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Executive Director Ludovico Badoy.
Alvarado said that all Filipinos should remember this date because it was the time when the first important document, the Malolos Constitution, was written in the country; a clear proof that indeed, we are free from our colonizers.
“Sa araw na ito binalangkas ang Konstitusyon ng Pilipinas. Dito nabuo ang mga batas na sinusunod natin ngayon kasama ang mga karapatan ng bawat Pilipino at ito’y marapat lamang na ating nililingon dahil bahagi ito ng kung nasaan, sino at ano tayo ngayon,” Alvarado said.
Some of the most important achievements of the Congress were the ratification of the independence proclaimed at Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898 on September 29, establishment of the Universidad Literatura de Filipinas and other schools and drafting of the Philippine Constitution.
Other invited guests are senior citizens, students, teachers, non-government organizations, and other sectors in Bulacan.
Prior to this, a mass was already held last September 15, 2018 at the historic church. Other activities in line for the said commemoration were decided to be conducted on September 20 due to the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.
