Senator Legarda to grace Bulacan’s commemoration of Philippine Independence
CITY OF MALOLOS- Senator Loren Legarda is set to celebrate, together with thousands of Bulakenyos, the commemoration of the declaration of Philippine Independence at the historic Barasoain Church in this city on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 8 am.
Anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin”, the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence aims to inspire and depict the great dedication of Filipinos who fought for the welfare of the country and of the people.
According to Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, unity is the main key in achieving personal and national freedom and the government is more than willing to help the citizens in striving to achieve a better nation.
“Pagkakaisa ang numero unong sangkap ng pag-unlad at kalayaan. Katulad ng ginawa ng ating mga pinagpipitaganang bayani, tayo rin sa ating panahon sa kasalukuyan ay dapat na maghawak-kamay tungo sa isang malaya, maunlad at mapayapang bansang Pilipinas,” Alvarado said.
Also, to help Bulakenyos achieve freedom from health issues, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through Kapitolyo sa Barangay will conduct a free medical and dental mission that will offer free medicines, X-ray and Electrocardiogram (ECG) tests, haircut, reflexology and massage as well as legal counseling coinciding the ceremony.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Provincial History Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) will hold the “Lakbike Turismo: A Fun Ride to the Past 2017”, a non-competitive bike pedaling eco-friendly tour which aims to create a widespread awareness on the value and importance of health and wellness as a lifestyle and to promote travel destinations in the province by using the most environmentally sustainable mode of transportation.
Bikers will pedal their way to various historical places in the province including Garden City in Guiguinto; Enriquez House, Nuestra Señora Dela Asuncion Church, Gregorio Del Pilar marker and Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine all in Bulakan; and Isidoro Torres marker, Malolos Heritage District and Barasoain Church in the City of Malolos.
The said commemoration is in accordance with Proclamation No. 28, s. 1962 or “Declaring June 12 as Philippine Independence Day” signed by former President Diosdado Macapagal.
