We owe it to our nation to reignite in the hearts of our fellowmen a deeper awareness of our history”

CITY OF MALOLOS- We owe it to our nation to reignite in the hearts of our fellowmen, especially the youth, a deeper awareness of our history and what it took for our forefathers to gain our freedom.”
This was the message of Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa to the thousands of Bulakenyos who attended the 121st Anniversary of the First Philippine Republic held at the historic Barasoain Church earlier today.
The senator believed that it is the duty of every Filipino to contribute to the continuous fight for democracy and peace for the benefit of our country.
“Against the noise and frenzy brought by social media, I hope that the message and significance of this historical milestone that we celebrate today is known to our countrymen particularly our young generation. Let us find time to teach our youth to sincerely embrace the meaning and significance of nationhood and make them recognize their responsibility to safeguard our freedom and democracy,” Dela Rosa added.
He also called on his fellow public servants to strongly unite, set aside politics and focus on the work of achieving the goals the Philippines has been yearning for through the decades.
Meanwhile, Governor Daniel R. Fernando paid tribute to the events that transpired more than a decade ago and said that the legacy of it still exists in this present generation and it challenges the Filipinos to be worthy of all the good things they are enjoying now.
“Habang ang ibang bansa sa Asya ay patuloy na nagpapasakop sa mga dayuhan, ito namang mga Pilipino ay tumindig sa kanilang karapatan sa sariling pamamahala. Ipinaglaban ng ating mga ninuno ang paniniwala na kaya nating pamahalaan ang ating sariling bansa kaya naman naririto tayong lahat ngayon,” the governor said.
Fernando also thanked Senator Bato for gracing the event despite his discomfort due to a motorcycle accident he had a few days ago.
Also present in the event were National Historical Commission of the Philippines OIC-Executive Director Carminda Arevalo; PB Gen. Rhodel Semonia; Acting Vice Gov. Erlene Luz Dela Cruz; Board Members Bernardo Ople, Jr., Allan Andan, Emelita Viceo, Romina Fermin and Alexis Castro; Second District Representative Gavini Pancho; and Mayors Gilbert Gatchalian of the City of Malolos, Ambrosio Cruz, Jr. of Guiguinto, Maritz Ochoa-Montejo of Pulilan, and Mary Ann Marcos of Paombong.
The celebration which was anchored on the theme “Unang Republika Filipina: Pundasyon sa Pagpapatatag ng Bansa” was made possible through the joint efforts of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Provincial Government of Bulacan and the City Government of Malolos.###
