San Rafael town bags Natatanging Bayan sa Nutrisyon award

100 MILLIONTH SYMBOLIC PINOY OF BULACAN. Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando hands over the P5,000 cash incentive and gift pack to Elija Marie Reyes, the selected and awarded 100 Millionth Symbolic Pinoy of Bulacan by the Commission on Population (POPCOM) Region III, coinciding the Culminating Activity of the Nutrition Month held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, City of Malolos, Bulacan yesterday afternoon. CITY OF MALOLOS – The municipality of San Rafael received P100,000 cash prize and a plaque of appreciation from the Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando after being hailed as the Natatanging Bayan sa Nutrisyon during the Culminating Activity of the Nutrition Month held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city, yesterday afternoon.

Following the winning town, the Municipality of Bulakan ranked 2nd place; Municipality of Calumpit got the 3rd place; Municipality of Marilao ranked 4th place; and Municipality of Paombong landed on the 5th place, all received plaques of appreciation and cash prizes worth P75,000, P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 respectively.

Moreover, Brgy. Malis in Guiguinto won the Natatanging Barangay sa Nutrisyon and received P50,000 cash prize and a plaque of appreciation. It was succeeded by Brgy. Tambubong, San Rafael, Brgy. Perez, Bulakan, Brgy. Bonga Menor, Bustos and Brgy. Sta. Rosa I, Marilao where each got a plaque of appreciation and cash prizes worth P40,000, P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000 correspondingly.

Virginia B. Gatmaitan, who was serving at the winning barangay in nutrition, was awarded as the Natatanging Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon and received P5,000 cash prize and a plaque of appreciation.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the awards secretariat, also gave plaques of appreciation to their Partners in Nutrition namely Rotary Club of Guiguinto Suburbs, Rotary Club of Pandi, Rotary Club of Norzagaray, Rotary Club of Hagonoy Ang Bayang Kay Ganda, Rotary Club of Pulilan, Rotary Club of Pulilan Diamond, Rotary Club of Obando Centro, Rotary Club of Meycauayan North East and District Governor George V. Bunuan.

Furthermore, winners of Healthy Diet for the Family Cooking Contest, which was joined by Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) members, were awarded wherein Doris L. Cortez and Lily Mae Mercado of Brgy. Longos, Pulilan got the 1st place and received P10,000 cash prize each and plaques of appreciation followed by Melissa S. Gabotero and Mary Joy B. Marin of Brgys. Iba O’Este and Bulusan of Calumpit who both received P7,000 cash prize and plaques of appreciation; and Cristina B. Villarama and Miachell A. Rosales of Brgy. Tukod, San Rafael who each received P5,000 and plaques of appreciation after landing on the 3rd spot.

As for the Malunggay Kahit Saan-PGB Employees Edition, Eunice S. Baluyot of the Provincial Human Resource and Management Office and Imelda J. De Guzman of the Provincial Administrator’s Office won and each received a plaque of appreciation and P5,000 and P3,000 cash prizes.

Quoting Winston Churchill, Alvarado believed that healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have.

“Bagaman sa maraming pagkakataon ay tumanggap ang Bulacan ng maraming pagkilala at parangal hinggil sa nutrisyon at kalusugan na lubos nating ikinararangal at ipinagpapasalamat, naniniwala ang inyong lingkod na ang pinakamabuting gantimpala sa huli na maaaring makamtan ng ating lalawigan ay ang pagkakaroon ng malusog na mamamayang higit na magpapasigla sa kaunlaran ng Bulacan,” the governor said.

The celebration is in accordance with Section 7 of Presidential Decree No. 491, s. 1974 which states that “The month of July shall be designated as NUTRITION MONTH, for the purpose of creating greater awareness among our people on the importance of nutrition.”
