PGB to hold cleanup drive, tree planting activity to celebrate Environment Month

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through its Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) will conduct a simultaneous cleanup drive and tree planting activity in line with the celebration of Environment Month this June.

With this year’s theme “Mamamayan at Kalikasan Pahalagahan”, BENRO will launch the Environment Month celebration on June 6 during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the BENRO will conduct the cleanup drive on June 10 in Tabang, Guiguinto and Balubad, Bulakan areas.

Representatives from non-government agencies, local government units, volunteers, barangay stakeholders and residents are expected to join in the cleaning of canals, creeks, and drainages.

Meanwhile, the tree planting activity is set to take place on June 25 during the celebration of Arbor Day.

The provincial governor reiterated the importance of preserving and protecting the environment in order to prevent fatal effects of climate change.

“Mahalaga po na habang may magagawa pa tayo ay sama-sama na tayong kumilos upang i-preserba at pangalagaan ang ating kalikasan. Hindi po biro ang epektong hatid ng climate change kung kaya ‘wag din nating ipagwalang bahala ito. Makiisa po tayo, palawakin ang ating kaalaman, at suportahan ang mga gawain para sa ating kalikasan at kapaligiran,” he added.

It can be recalled that Alvarado declared the 25th of June every year as Arbor Day or Tree Planting Day in Bulacan requiring all able-bodied citizens to plant one tree every year in accordance with the Philippines Arbor Day.

Further, as per Proclamation No. 237, s. 1988, the Philippines celebrates the whole month of June as Environment Month to focus public attention to the protection and conservation of the country’s natural resources.
