PDRRMC chairman assures no flooding as Bustos Dam rubber gate gets damaged
CITY OF MALOLOS – Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Chairman and Governor Daniel R. Fernando assures the Bulakenyos that the damaged Rubber Gate 3 of Bustos Dam will not cause overflowing and flooding to the cities and municipalities along the Angat River.
“Wala pong dapat ikabahala ang ating mga kalalawigang naninirahan sa baybayin mula sa bayan ng Bustos hanggang Calumpit. Hindi po magdudulot ng pagbaha ang insidente ngayong hapon. Gayunpaman, sisiguruhin po natin na magkakaroon ng karampatang aksyon ang pangyayaring ito,” the PDRRMC chairman said.
According to the situational report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, at 2:30 pm, Bustos Dam rubber gate number 3 was damaged due to hot weather that normally caused the compressed air or gas inside to expand that eventually caused the leakage of the said rubber gate.
“With reference to the present water level of Angat River from Bustos towards Calumpit, it is within yellow markings or low level status. Thus, the release of 2.38 mts. flowing to the stretch of Angat River towards Calumpit will not cause alarm,” the report stated.
Also, as of 4:00 pm today, the flow of water went back to the normal low level status and normal speed of flowing.
It can be recalled that in 2022, Fernando gave an ultimatum to the contractors ITP Construction Inc. and Guangxi Hydroelectric Construction Bureau Co. Ltd. to not just repair but replace all six rubber bladders of the Angat Afterbay Regulation Dam or Bustos Dam, but to no avail.
