NHCP, Bulacan to conduct commemorative symposium for General Isidoro Torres

CITY OF MALOLOS – The heroic deeds and sacrifices of a great revolutionary hero will once again be relived in Bulacan as the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Provincial Government of Bulacan are set to conduct a symposium to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of General Isidoro Torres this coming September 7-8, 2016 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

With the theme “Kagitingan at Pananagutan sa Inang Bayan,” the two-day symposium will tackle the life of the general as a revolutionary who fought for the country’s independence and as a political leader who uplifted the lives of his constituents during his time.

“Ang kumperensiyang ito ay magtatampok sa talambuhay ni Hen. Isidoro Torres bilang isang huwarang lider sa mga kabataan at magiting na rebolusyunaryong lumaban para sa ating kalayaan. Tatalakayin rin sa kumperensiya ang kanyang kagitingan bilang pinuno noong panahon ng himagsikan,” Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz said.

The symposium, which is also part of the activities for the celebration of Singkaban Festival 2016 aims to inculcate awareness and appreciation of the noble deeds and ideals of our heroes and to rekindle patriotism through brief discussion of the national history.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado encourages the young Bulakenyos to participate in the symposium and be informed about the righteous deeds of Gen. Isidoro Torres who have also served the province as politico-military governor in 1899.

Noted historians and scholars from NHCP and different universities are expected to share their knowledge on the life and works of the general as well as the revolutionary acts of the country’s noble heroes.

The Dakilang Bulakenyo and Bulacandia Exhibit and Book Fair will also be launched at the first day of the commemorative symposium.

Gen. Torres was born on April 10, 1886 in Matimbo, Malolos, Bulacan. He established many Katipunan chapters in the province and headed 6,000 strong Filipino armies that marched in the parade during the inauguration of the Philippine Republic on January 23, 1899.
