Friday, 03 October 2014
CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) joins the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) in the celebration of the 22nd National Children’s Month this October with different activities and programs intended for the promotion of the rights and importance of the Filipino children.

With the theme “Bata Kasali ka, Ikaw ay Mahalaga,” the month-long celebration highlights the children's participation in decision-making processes in order to develop and enhance their potentials as future good leaders.

According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rowena Tiongson, the celebration will kick off with an Awareness Walk on Child’s Right that will be conducted simultaneously on October 4, 2014 at 7:00 am in different cities and towns in Bulacan.

Thousands of children from day care centers, elementary and high schools (public and private) are expected to participate in the celebration.

“We are joining the Council for the Welfare of Children in the nationwide celebration of Children’s Month and prior to this, we already gathered hundreds of children from different public schools in Bulacan who participated in our Awit at Sayaw Para sa Wastong Nutrisyon, a discussion and presentation of Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos,” said Tiongson.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the Provincial Government will always be supportive in emphasizing the important role of the child within the Filipino family and in nation building.

“Mahalaga ang bawat bata sa ating pamayanan at dapat nating siguraduhin na tinatamasa nila ang kanilang mga karapatan sa lipunan. Ang pundasyon rin ng kanilang katalinuhan at pagpapahalaga ang makatutulong sa pag-unlad ng ating bayan,” the governor said.

Moreover, selected children from the 21 towns and three cities in the province will compete and showcase their talents in the Provincial Children’s Congress 2014 in the category of Solo Singing Contest, Drawing Competition, Poem Reciting Competition and Folk Dancing Competition on October 24, 2014 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center.

Winners in the Provincial Children’s Congress will be the official representatives in the regional level on October 28, 2014 at the SM City Event Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No.267 s. 1993 that bids to show the important role of children and what they can contribute in the society. ###
