Bulacan lines up activities for Lung Month

CITY OF MALOLOS – In a bid to reduce and eventually eradicate tuberculosis that kills millions of people worldwide, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Public Health Office and Bulacan Multi-Sectoral Alliance (BMSA) against TB jam-packed the Lung Month celebration with weeklong activities from August 18-22, 2014.

A simultaneous TB Caravan in the four districts of the province will be held on August 18 to uplift the awareness of Bulakenyos about the said illness which will be followed by Talakayang Bulakenyo, an open forum between the public and health officers in the towns of Pulilan, Baliwag, San Rafael, and Santa Maria.

For the Bulakenyo youth, a mural painting that focuses on TB control and prevention is open for all students that can form a group of four members and will be painting a given space of the wall of Bulacan Provincial Jail from August 18-22.

Prizes will be P30,000 for the 1st placer, P20,000 for the 2nd placer, P10,000 for the 3rd placer and P1,000 consolation prize to non-placers.
On August 20, a TB dialogue that will cater provincial-municipal local chief executives will be held.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado encourages Bulakenyos to take advantage of the program and learn how to prevent and cure TB.

“Alam naman natin na ang kalusugan ay kayamanan, kaya kunin natin ang pagkakataong matuto at malaman kung paano tayo makakaiwas sa mga nagbabanta sa kalusugan natin. Ang TB ay talagang mabilis makahawa kaya para hindi na dumami pa bagkus ay matigil na, let’s all be educated of the truth about TB,” Alvarado said.

As for the culminating activity on August 22, the PPHO will conduct the Bulacan TB Summit with a theme Stop TB: Makialam! Tara Na! at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center where Asec. Gerardo Bayugo will be the guest of honor.

The said activity aims to educate the people through lectures about Burden of TB by PTSI by Dr. Lalaine Mortera, Financing: PHIC TB DOTS Accreditation by PHIC, Addressing Local Stigma by DOH and MDR and XDR TB by Innovations and Multisectoral Partnerships to Achieve Control of Tuberculosis (IMPACT).

Also part of the culminating activity are the awarding of the mural painting, Signing of Declaration that includes Adoption of Bulacan TB Awareness Day, Audio Video Presentation of testimonials of TB Cured Patients and the oath taking ceremony of the BMSA officers. ###
