CITY OF MALOLOS – Remembering the patriotism of the great propagandist Gat. Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado together with the citizens of the Municipality of Bulakan gathered at the Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine (MHDPS) in Bulakan, Bulacan as they honor the 118th death anniversary of the province’s greatest hero, early this morning.

With this year’s theme, “Si Gat Marcelo H. Del Pilar, ang Himagsikan at ang kanyang Konsepto ng Nasyonalismo at Pagkabansa,” the governor narrates the patriotism and heroism of Del Pilar’s contribution in the 1896 Philippine Revolution.

The said celebration was commemorated thru the traditional laying of floral wreaths at the hero’s monument and an annual lecture seminar about Del Pilar’s concept of freedom and patriotism that was attended by the students and professors from Bulacan State University-Meneses Campus led by the event’s resource speaker, King S. Cortez of the Universidad de Manila.

Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Bulacan-Zambales Head Alex Balagtas, NHCP Historic Sites & Education Division Chief Gina C. Batuhan, Bulacan Salinlahi Head Isagani Giron and representatives from the municipality of Bulakan also graced the historic occasion.

Better known by his pen name Plaridel, Marcelo Hilario del Pilar y Gatmaitán was born on August 30, 1850 in Cupang, San Nicolas, Bulakan, Bulacan and died of tuberculosis on July 4, 1896 in Barcelona.###
