Bulacan joins the 2014 National Disaster Consciousness Month

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado joins the nation in the month-long observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July 2014 to promote public awareness on natural hazards and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the adverse effects of such danger.

With this year’s theme “Kahandaan at Kaligtasan ng Pamayanan, Pundasyon ng Kaunlaran”, the kick-off activity was held yesterday, June 30, during the Monday Flag Raising ceremony, wherein the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office distributed 100 whistles to capitol employees.

“The province has always been doing efforts to heighten the province’s awareness and the need to implement mitigation measures. Dapat magkaroon ng tamang pagharap sa kalamidad dahil sa direktang kaugnayan nito sa planong kaunlaran pa ng lalawigan”, said Alvarado.

As part of its efforts to strengthen preparedness and response, the PGB has scheduled the following activities such as month-long distribution of IEC materials and implementation of the “Ang Bote Mo Kaligtasan Ko, Buong Taon Na Ito” program; Earthquake Drill on July 2 at the Bulacan Medical Center; Training on First Aid/ BLS-CPR, Water Safety and Fire Suppression on July 2-4 and 7-9 at Malolos Resort Club Royale; 10 days First Aid/BLS-CPR Refresher Course on July 10-11, 14-19, 21-22 at the Capitol Gymnasium; 11th Central Luzon First Aid and Basic Life Support Olympics on July 23-24 at Malolos Convention Center; Multi Hazards Maps Information, Education and Information Campaign in 569 barangays on July 7 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center and July 14-15 at 8 Waves Waterpark in San Rafael, Bulacan.

An Ambulance Management Training will also be held on July 28-29 at Balagtas Hall, HBCC while the much-awaited 4th Bulacan Rescuelympics is scheduled on July 31 at the Bulacan Sports Complex and Capitol Gymnasium.

“We know that disasters, when they occur, hit the poorest and the most vulnerable the hardest. And while we cannot fully control the occurrence and the impact of disasters, the PGB has already focused on improving its capacity to respond to disasters and public health emergencies by making a concrete disaster contingency planning in anticipation to diverse set of threats due to disasters and crises of all magnitude” the governor added. ###
