Alvarado to lead the commemoration of the National Flag Day
Tuesday, 27 May 2014
CITY OF MALOLOS - Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will lead the 116th year commemoration of the first unfurling of the Philippine flag on May 28, 2014, 8:00 A.M. in front of the capitol building in this city.

This is in accordance to Sections 7 and 26 of the Republic Act No. 8491 otherwise known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines that states that every May 28 of each year will be commemorated as the National Flag Day.

It can be remembered that May 28, 1898 was the first unfurling of the flag of the Philippines after the first victory of the revolution following the battle on the Alapan Bridge in Imus, Cavite as a prelude to the declaration of the Philippine Independence.

Further, it is also stated in the code that the flag should be displayed on all public and private offices, agencies, schools and establishments all over the country from May 28 to June 12 or the Independence Day.

“Batid nating lahat na isa ang lalawigan ng Bulacan sa walong lalawigan na kumakatawan sa walong sinag ng araw sa ating bandila. Ang ating watawat ang sumasagisag sa ating kalayaan mula sa mahabang panahon na pagkakasadlak sa putik ng pagkakasakop. Nararapat lamang na bigyan natin ito ng pagpupugay at pagpapahalaga bilang pagkilala sa demokrasyang ating tinatamasa,” Alvarado said.

Other highlights of the event include the wreath laying ceremony and the unveiling of the marker on Gat Marcelo H. Del Pilar’s monument.

Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando, board members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and all the employees of the provincial government are expected to grace the event.###
