PGB recognizes four Bulakenyo Gawad Saka awardees

CITY OF MALOLOS - The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Agriculture Office recognizes four Bulakenyos who have been conferred in the Gawad Saka Regional Level of the Department of Agriculture during the Farmers and Fisherfolks Recognition Day held recently at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

Among the awardees were Arcadio F. De Belen for Outstanding Large Animal Raiser; Benito F. Sagala and family for the Outstanding Farm Family category; Catmon Multi-purpose Cooperative as Outstanding Small Farmer’s Association/Cooperative; and Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC) for being awarded as the outstanding council.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said they won because of their efforts to improve their livelihood and become models to their own family and other farmers.

“Mapalad po tayo, lalo na sa ating lalawigan na marami tayong kababayan na kinakitaan ng natatanging galing at talino na nag-ambag sa kaunlaran ng ating bayan sa iba’t ibang larangan ng paggawa. Sila ay pinagpugayan natin at binibigyan ng parangal at pagkilala,” Alvarado said.

The PAO added that Catmon Multi-purpose Cooperative was awarded due to their success in growing their P12,500 primary capital to P180,000 million that helped 4,386 members.

Further, PAFC-Bulacan was recognized for their efforts to create Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) and City Agricultural and Fishery Council (CAFC) in the 21 municipalities and three cities of Bulacan.

The said awardees received P20,000 cash incentive and plaques of recognition wherein they will also represent the province in the national level competition.

In line with this, the PGB also distributed 460 drying nets to farmers and fishermen who attended the program.

Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Dir. Crispulo G. Bautista, Jr., Regional Technical Director of DA- Regional Office 3, and Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo, Provincial Agriculturist also joined the event.

Gawad Saka is an annual activity of the Department of Agriculture honoring individuals and institutions that stand out in their fields and greatly contributed in the development of agriculture in the country.###
