Monday, 19 May 2014
CITY OF MALOLOS- The Provincial Government of Bulacan supports all the way the Department of Education (DepEd) as it launches once again the Brigada Eskwela otherwise known as the National Schools Maintenance Week from May 19 to 24, 2014 at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in this city.

With the theme “Making our schools safer”, the Brigada Eskwela, a simultaneous clean up and repair of public schools all over the country that gives emphasis on preparation for day-to-day emergencies and natural and man-made disasters is all set to ensure the readiness of schools two weeks before the opening of classes on June 2.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that 457 public elementary schools and 85 secondary schools are now starting their clean up activities.

“Malaking bagay ito sapagkat nais nating mapangalagaan ang mga bata at maging panatag sila na ligtas sila kahit wala sila sa kani-kanilang mga bahay, gayundin mapanatag ang loob ng mga magulang na ‘yung pag-iiwanan nila sa mga anak nila ay ligtas,” Alvarado said.

Teachers, parents, students, members of the community, local officials and other education stakeholders are expected to join the simultaneous weeklong activity that will be conducted in all public schools nationwide.

DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro issued DepED Memo No. 32 series 2014 that says they are finalizing guidelines and templates to make schools safer such as hazard and risk mapping for flooding and road safety and putting up of safety signs and drills. ###
