Bulacan gov defends PhilHealth
Tuesday, 21 January 2014
CITY OF MALOLOS- “PhilHealth is the saving grace of all the government hospitals.”

Thus Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said during a press conference recently in this city as he defended the hundred percent hike of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

The PhilHealth board recently issued an order imposing a 100 percent hike in premium fees to the National Health Insurance Program.

“From P 1,200 to P 2,400, the increase of the said health insurance is still favorable compared to its medical service benefits to the public especially to the masses,” said Alvarado.

The governor also said that PhilHealth should be spared from any unnecessary controversies because the “point of care” policy that it has implemented last year is now yielding positive results, helping government hospitals to provide quality medical services and upgrading of its facilities.

The point of care policy is a very systematic policy wherein the patient does not have to worry about the billing.

“Maaaring mabigat nga para sa mga indigent ang P2,400 ngunit ito ay talagang maliit kumpara sa ilang libong bayad halimbawa sa panganganak thru caesarian section. All you need is P2,400 na kung saan sa araw ding iyon ay covered ka na agad ng PhilHealth,” Alvarado said.

The provincial chief executive also added that PhilHealth is one of the best social services of the national government.

Last year, approximately 150,000 Bulakenyos received PhilHealth cards; 70,000 from the national government and 40,000 from the provincial government and municipal and city mayors of Bulacan. ###
