Life and heroism of Isidoro Torres to be included in the new K-12 curriculum

CITY OF MALOLOS – The life and heroism of Gen. Isidoro Torres will be kept alive by including it in the new K-12 curriculum.

This will be one of the topics to be discussed in the Pambansang Kumperensiya sa Bulacan 2016 with the theme, “Isidoro Dayao Torres at 150: Ang Kabayanihan sa Panahon ng Rebolusyong 1896” that will feature the life of Gen. Isidoro Torres, former governor of Bulacan come September 13-15, 2016 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

In lieu of his 150th birthday, the conference, which is a joint project of the Provincial History, Arts and Culture Office (PHACTO) and the Samahang Pangkasaysayan ng Bulacan (SAMPAKA) aims to discuss the heroism of Gen. Torres during the times of war and learn from his perspectives on how he saw life amidst crisis.

“Layunin din nito na maisama ang paksang ito, ang buhay at kabayanihan ni Hen. Torres sa pagtalakay sa Local History sa bagong curriculum ng K-12. Sa ganitong paraan mas makikilala natin lalo na ng mga kabataan ang isang bayaning sariling atin bukod sa mga kilala na talaga tulad nina del Pilar,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said.

A total of 100 elementary teachers and members of SAMPAKA will be joining the event.

Moreover, some of the talks in the three-day conference will be about the meaning and importance of heroism; who is Torres from the viewpoint of his great grand children, Goyo and Doro’s (Torres) squabbles during the times of the revolution; the reading materials in his time; his journey to Macabebe, Pampanga; and the battle in Paombong during the 1897 revolution among others.

“There will be talks and afterwards discussion, parang open forum sa tuwing matatapos ang paglalahad kaya magiging masaya ‘to. Akala ng iba kapag history nakakaantok pero talking about history can also be fun,” Dr. Eliseo dela Cruz, PHACTO head, said.

Modules for the K-12 will also be discussed.

There will also be film viewings and side trip at the Barasoain Shrine, walking tour at the Barasoain Museum and SAMPAKA exhibit.
