CITY OF MALOLOS – Once again, Bulakenyos showed their deep appreciation for their own arts and culture during the KBS Rewaynd (Kumpetisyong Bayan sa Singkaban) held at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city recently.
In the said competition, the participants sang their hearts out in singing kudiman songs, gracefully danced folk dances and exchanged intelligent ideas in balagtasan.
The competition aims to promote and promulgate traditional art forms among the youth of Bulacan and also among neighboring towns, cities, provinces and regions.
With 15 participants per category, the voice of Chelsie Santos of Child Jesus Montessori stood out in the Kundiman category and won P15,000 plus a trophy; Bulacan State University’s Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe won first place in Folk Dance category and took home a trophy and a check amounting to P70,000; and students from Cong. Erasmo R. Cruz Memorial Elementary school were hailed as the champions in Balagtasan category and won a trophy plus P30,000.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said it is a delight to see Bulakenyo youth performing traditional art forms and to know that these kinds of arts are not forgotten.
“Sa pamamagitan ng mga ganitong kumpetisyon, naibabalik natin ‘yung sigla ng sariling atin, nagagawa nating ipakilala at mahalin din ng mga kabataan sa bagong henerasyon ‘yung akala ng iba ay pang matanda lang, ito po ay sa atin, tayo po ang mag-iingat nito,” Alvarado said.
