CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through its Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) seized 33 pieces of illegally-cut timber in an operation led by the Provincial Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force (PAILTF) at Sitio Balikiran, Brgy. Kabayunan, Do˜a Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan last November 18, 2021.
According to the composite team, the suspects immediately fled the area wherein the confiscated timber of red and lauan tree species which measure 562.99 board feet were destroyed on site with an estimated value of P28,150.
On the other hand, CENRO-Baliwag have already identified 38 individuals this year who are under investigation for being involved as financiers of illegal logging wherein criminal complaints will be filed pursuant to Executive Order No. 23, Declaring the Moratorium on the Cutting and Harvesting of Timber in the Natural and Residual Forests, and Section 68 of Presidential Decree 705 as amended by Republic Act 7161 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando said that the Provincial Government of Bulacan will continue its campaign to curb illegal forestry activities in the province.
“Layunin natin na palakasin pa ang mga hakbang at istratehiya upang mapangalagaan at mapanatili pa natin ang mga kagubatan dito sa ating lalawigan . Sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa iba pang mga law enforcement agencies, gagawin natin ang mga nararapat na aksyon upang matigil na ang mga ilegal na aktibidad gaya ng timber poaching, illegal cutting, charcoal-making at iba pa na nakasisira sa ating likas na yaman,” the governor said.
The forest protection work and operation was launched through the joint efforts of BENRO, Angat Watershed Area Team of the National Power Corporation and 70th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. ###
