CITY OF MALOLOS – The Hiyas ng Hagonoy Folkloric Group from the town of Hagonoy and Young TG Dance Group from the town of Bocaue outperformed other 20 groups and were hailed champions of Galing Bulakenyo: Singkaban Folk and Hip-Hop Dance Competitions held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city yesterday.
Out of the eight groups who competed in folk dance category, the Hiyas ng Hagonoy Folkloric Group wowed the judges with their performance and was hailed the victor who took home P20,000 cash prize and a trophy.
The Indak Guiguinteño Folkloric Group from the town of Guiguinto landed on the second spot and received P15,000 and a trophy followed by San Pedro Community Dance Group on the third place and received P10,000 and a trophy. Two groups namely Liping Hagoenyo and Sandayong Dance Groups got P5,000 each as consolation prizes.
As for the hip-hop dance category, Young TG Dance Group out danced the other 13 groups and won P20,000 cash prize and a trophy.
The Royal Beat Crew from the City of Malolos won second place and receive P15,000 and a trophy while the third placer Royal Icons from Balagtas town took home P10,000 and a trophy. Two hip-hop dance groups including Novel Crime and Folk Jumpers each received P5,000 consolation prizes.
Meanwhile, Governor Daniel R. Fernando said that it is only through this dance competition that the ‘old and new’ era of dancing come together.
“Dito natin makikita ang sayaw noong araw at sayaw ngayong modernong panahon. Napakalaki ng difference, napakalaki ng ipinagbago ng mundo. Dito naipamalas ang galing hip hop man o folk dance,” Fernando said.
As for hip-hop dance choreographer Shane Khevin Selisana of Young TG, he is hopeful that young Bulakenyos like them will continue to pursue their dreams and to never give up despite facing challenges along the way.
“Maraming challenges talaga ang aming hinarap. Masasabi ko na lang sa mga kabataan na ‘wag sumuko kahit ano mang maging problema at magtiwala sa sarili, siyempre pati sa Poong Maykapal,” Selisana said.
