Bulacan holds 1st BANGON BULACAN! Online Song Writing Competition for Singkaban Festival

CITY OF MALOLOS- The province of Bulacan in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines “Kaisa sa Sining” program held the 1st Bangon Bulacan! Online Song Writing Competition, Sunday afternoon, as part of the programs under the Sining at Kalinangan ng Bulacan (Singkaban) Festival that encourages everyone to showcase their talents in music and song writing about notable characters of Filipinos during the pandemic.

“Singkaban is not cancelled due to pandemic, only now it is being celebrated on a different platform as part of the new normal. Patuloy nating ipinagmamalaki ang ating sining at kultura bagaman hindi tayo nagtitipon,
magkakasama pa rin tayo sa diwa at kahit dito muna sa social media. Samahan n’yo kami na patuloy na linangin ang husay at galing ng mga Bulakenyo,” Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said.

Dr. Eliseo dela Cruz, head of Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office, said that the competition is open to all Bulakenyos without contract to any music label companies.

The head of the secretariat also mentioned that 43 entries were submitted to their office from which 15 were chosen as official entries based on the following criteria: 40% Lyrics /Impact of the Message, 20% Musicality, 20% Originality, Creativity, Concept, Content of the Video, 10% Voice Quality/ Intonation, and 10% Over-all Impact.

From the 15 contenders, Mark Angelo Homer from Bulakan town and the composer and lyricist of “Kaya Natin” won the first place and took home P20,000 cash and a trophy; Michael Fresnoza from Guiguinto and the composer and lyricist of “Bangon! Sulong! Bulakenyo” landed on second place and got P15,000 cash and a trophy; Era Velnan from Calumpit and the composer and lyricist of “Sa Puso Mong Alay” placed third and took home P10,000 cash and a trophy; Hipolito Martin from Hagonoy and the composer and lyricist of “Naghihintay na Bukas” won fourth place and received P7,000 cash and a trophy; and Irene Ladino from the City of San Jose del Monte, composer and lyricist of “Liwanag ng Tagumpay” won fifth place and took home P5,000 cash and a trophy. All of them also received gift certificates from Eurobake, Café Eurobake and Konsepto Lokal.

Moreover, Johan Salazar from Bustos, composer of “Bayang Matatag” won the People’s Choice Award; Hipolito Martin from Hagonoy, composer, lyricist and interpreter of “Naghihintay na Bukas” was chosen as Best Bangon Bulacan Video; and Sound of Era Band from Calumpit was awarded the Best Interpreter. All of them took home P1,000 each, certificates and gift packs from Mama Sita while non-winners received P2,000 each as a consolation prize.

In addition, Fernando gave tokens to all 15 finalists.

The grand champion admitted that he was surprised and thanked everyone who believed and supported him.

“Salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta sa ‘kin, di ko man kayo maisa-isa pero salamat,” Homer tearfully said.

Meanwhile, Carmencita Bernardo, Department Manager of CCP Cultural Exchange Department that funded the event, said they are happy to be part of Singkaban Festival 2020 celebration.

“Sa pamamagitan ng inyong mga awit at himig, nawa’y makapagbigay ito ng inspirasyon sa mga mamamayan na higit na magmalasakit sa kapwa, makapagdulot ng saya, magbigay ng kapayapaan sa puso. Patuloy po sana tayong lumikha ng mga obra at pamana ng lahi para sa susunod pang henerasyon,” Bernardo said.

The said event was made possible through the support of the sponsors including Mama Sita Foundation, Konsepto Lokal, Eurobake, Café Eurobake, 13 Siblings, Ribbon Arc Motor Sport, and Karatig Film Circle Production.###
