“Freedom is choosing the right path for the sake of all the Filipinos” – Fernando
CITY OF MALOLOS – “Freedom is choosing the right path for the sake of all the Filipinos. It is the freedom to choose love, instead of hatred; the freedom to choose solidarity and not disunion; freedom to choose respect towards others and self-discipline.”
This is the message of Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando as he joined the nation in the celebration of the 122nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas” at the historical Barasoain Church, City of Malolos, Bulacan this morning.
Through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and
Tourism Office, Fernando together with Vice Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado led a simpler program wherein after singing the National Anthem and reciting the oath to the Philippine Flag, they proceeded with the symbolic wreath laying in front of the monument of the late Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo to commemorate the heroism of the late president in achieving the independence of the country.
Further, Fernando also shared the true meaning of independence during this modern time.
“Tayo ay tinatawagang mag-ambag ng kakayanan at lakas upang muling palayain ang ating bayan sa pagkakaalipin ng ating panahon – hindi na nga sa madugong pakikipaglaban, sa halip ay sa isang makabagong paghihimagsik laban sa kahirapan, laban sa kawalan ng oportunidad sa buhay, laban sa kakulangan ng proteksyon sa lipunan at laban sa mga banta ng pandemya, kalamidad at karahasan,” the governor said.
Moreover, Rosario V. Sapitan, representative of National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), City of Malolos Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, City of Malolos Vice Mayor Noel Pineda and Rev. Father Dars Cabral also graced the celebration.
On June 12, 1898, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the independence of the Philippines in Kawit, Cavite where the Philippine flag was also raised in public for the first time. ###
