Fernando to lead the commemoration of Plaridel’s 169th Birth Anniversary

CITY OF MALOLOS- Governor Daniel R. Fernando, together with thousands of Bulakenyos, is set to flock the Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine in San Nicolas, Bulakan, Bulacan to commemorate the 169th Birth Anniversary of the Great Propagandist and Father of Philippine Journalism and Philippine Masonry on August 30, 2019.

Anchored on the theme “Gat Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Inspirasyon ng Sama-samang Pag-unlad ng Bawat Bulakenyo”, the celebration will kick off through a civic parade at 6 am that will be joined by different sectors including students, teachers, marching bands, drum and lyre, Knights of Rizal, media and other Bulakenyos.

At 8 am, the flag raising ceremony, oath to the national flag and wreath laying ceremony will be led by Fernando together with other local officials and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Fernando recognizes the valuable contributions of Plaridel in Philippine history and said that it is still evident in this modern time.

“Nasa loob tayo ng isang mapanghamong panahon, panahon kung saan sinusubok ang ating pagmamahal sa bayan dahil sa dami ng mga pagsubok na kinakaharap ng ating bansa. Ngunit sa pamamagitan ng isang Marcelo H. Del Pilar, ipinapaalala sa atin na sa ating sariling paraan, magagawa nating ipaglaban ang ating mga paniniwala na alam nating makabubuti sa ating bayang sinilangan,” the governor said.

Better known by his pen name ‘Plaridel’, Del Pilar is the founder of Diariong Tagalog, the first bilingual newspaper in the Philippines, and editor of La Solidaridad.

August 30 of every year is declared as a special non-working day in the Province of Bulacan in accordance with Republic Act No. 7449 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Del Pilar.
