Fernando backs feasibility study for the development of MBIFCCDEP
CITY OF MALOLOS – Provincial Development Council (PDC) Chairperson and Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando expressed his full support for a feasibility study on the Manila Bay Integrated Flood Control Coastal Defense and Expressway Project (MBIFCCDEP), the project that proposes a coastal road-dike extending from Bataan, through Pampanga and Bulacan, to Metro Manila, as outlined in PDC Resolution No. 2025-06-01.
Fernando believes the project, designed to function as both a roadway and a flood control barrier, will minimize flood risks and enhance coastal resilience in the region.
“Ito po ay isa sa mga flagship na programa natin sa pagbaha. Sana bago matapos ang aking termino ay ma-budget-an ito, at sa pag-alis ko sa Kapitolyo, ito’y gagawin na. At least may naiwan tayo na solusyon sa baha,” the hopeful governor said during the First Monday Flag Ceremony held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, in this city last Tuesday.
The governor shared that the project was already presented to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. as a potential long-term solution to persistent flooding in Central Luzon provinces. In response, President Marcos, through Presidential Directive No. PBBM-2025-1415, directed the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines to review proposals for the MBIFCCDEP.
Meanwhile, Fernando also stated that he is in discussions with San Miguel Corporation President and CEO Ramon Ang for the dredging of major and minor rivers in the province, a proposal to which the business tycoon agreed.
“‘Yan po talaga ang isa sa aking mga layunin, ang pagtulung-tulungan ang lalawigan to control at mawala na po ‘yung mga flooding na ‘yan, para pagpasok ng investors natin, tuloy-tuloy na, ‘di po mag-aalinlangan,” he said.
Fernando began the first day of his third term as governor by enumerating his future plans for the Province of Bulacan. ###
