Guevarra encouraged Bulakenyos to join the fight for justice as a way of giving importance to the hard-fought freedom of the Filipinos.

“Magtulung-tulong tayong palayain ang ating bayan mula sa mga nagmamalabis, ipagtanggol ang kapakanan ng mga naapi at tapusin ang lahat ng anyo ng pang-aalipin. Sabay nating bigyang katarungan ang kalayaang buong giting na ipinaglaban, palayain ang ating kapwa at ang ating sarili sa lahat ng uri ng pang-aapi,” Guevarra said.
The guest speaker also said that history is one vital part in everybody’s entirety, but more importantly, the lessons that it imprinted to Filipinos serve as a guide in the future.
“Ang kasaysayang ito ay isinulat sa pamamagitan ng pawis at dugo, ito ang kasaysayang ating ipinagbubunyi, ngunit higit dito, nararapat nating suriin ang aral nito, sapagkat hindi pa tunay na natutuldukan ang digmaan para sa kasarinlan, nag-iba lamang ang mukha ng ating kalaban. Ito ay ang katotohanang ang digmaan para sa kasarinlan ay isang laban para sa katarungan,” the justice secretary added.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado is grateful that the ‘First Republic in Asia’ happened in Bulacan for it led the province to a more meaningful journey to development.
“Ang pagpapalang itinanim ng Unang Republika ay patuloy na yumayabong samantalang bumubungad sa atin ang mga bagong kaganapang muling huhugis ng anyo ng ating lalawigan, mga bagong proyektong tanda na higit na maunlad na lalawigan,” Alvarado said.
In line with this, the governor cited ongoing projects in Bulacan including the construction of the Metro Manila Skyway project, the Metro Rail Transit Line 7, Bulacan Bulk Water Project, the International Airport, which is 10 times bigger that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport that will feature a modern terminal, runways, a road network, connection to MRT and ferry services.
The program started with a flag raising ceremony followed by the wreath laying activity at the monument of Emilio Aguinaldo.
Also present in the program were Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Congressman Jonathan R. Sy-Alvarado, City of Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad, Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, BPPO Provincial Director PSSupt. Chito Bersaluna, and Board Members Therese Cheryll Ople, Felix Ople, Alex Castro, Norma Roque, Perlita Delos Santos, Allan Andan and Joseph Andrew Mendoza.
President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into a law the Republic Act 110141 or “An act declaring January 23 of every year a special working holiday in the entire country to commemorate the declaration of the First Philippine Republic”. It was on January 23, 1899 when the First Philippine Republic was established and marked the beginning of Filipino democracy.
