DOH to conduct health care caravan in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS – In a bid to improve the access of Bulakenyos to relevant health information and services, the Department of Health (DOH) with the cooperation of the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial Public Health Office will conduct a “Health Caravan” on July 31, 2015 at 7:00 am at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

To help Bulakenyos acquire assistance in a more convenient and easy way, the DOH launched High Five Impact Strategy to accelerate the provision of health services including maternal care, child health, infant care, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention and control and service delivery network.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said Bulakenyos should spread the news and avail of the benefits intended for them.

Dr. Jocelyn Gomez, Provincial Health Officer shared the details of the program that will start with a motorcade from Tabang, Guiguinto.

Among the services available at the health care caravan are pre-natal, hemoglobin determination, blood pressure measurement, distribution of Ferrous Sulfate, and birth planning for maternal care.

For adolescents and children, there will be immunization, deworming, feeding, dental care and distribution of IEC materials to address teenage pregnancy.

As for infant care, there will be information dissemination on breastfeeding, childhood illnesses, and immunization.

For senior citizens, there will be an updating of Multi-Drug Resistant reports, enrolment as PhilHealth members, and information dissemination of PhilHealth services.

Also, the health caravan offers HIV counseling and testing, blood typing and blood donation.

Almost 400 Bulakenyos are expected to participate in the said caravan including senior citizens, parents and their babies, pregnant women, day care pupils and parents, blood donors from the Philippine National Police, Bulacan State University, Bulacan Polytechnic College and PGB, target groups for HIV counselling and testing, media and other health partners.

Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon, DOH Region 3 will grace the event as the guest speaker.
